Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar optional
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and grease an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using) in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter in a separate bowl.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Pour the smooth batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cornbread sit and cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
