Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup milk warmed
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter softened

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, quickly combine the flour and sugar. Add in the yeast mixture and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Add in the salt and mix again. Then add the softened butter, one tablespoon at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Knead the dough for 15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for about 60 minutes or until it doubles.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 2 equal parts. Shape each piece into a round loaf and place them into greased loaf pans.
  7. Cover the pans again and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Brush the tops of the loaves with a beaten egg wash.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow on the bottom.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool before slicing and serving.
