Gluten-Free Pasta

Gluten-free pasta is the new norm for many people suffering from celiac disease. In 2023, companies have experienced more demand for gluten-sensitive products. It’s estimated that around 6% of the US population is gluten-intolerant. But this number does not consider the number of people voluntarily consuming gluten-free products without being in one of the two categories. For example, my wife has been dealing with celiac disease for many years, so I also have to use these products to ensure that the meals we eat fit her needs.

Pasta is one of our favorite dishes, most commonly made with gluten. Luckily, more brands are creating healthier alternatives at your local grocery store. In this article, we’ll review our top gluten-free pasta choices that range from one spectrum to the next. I highly recommend checking out our recipes page to find something tasty and healthy.

Gluten-Free Pasta Factors

There are a few important factors to consider when choosing a gluten-free pasta. The first is its ingredients; just because it’s gluten-free does not mean it’s dairy or soy free. Most products should fit your requirements if you don’t have to worry about these other allergens. Nonetheless, it’s important to double-check the ingredient makeup of the pasta to see if it’ll provide more or less protein and fiber than its wheat counterpart.

The next factor you should remember while purchasing gluten-free pasta is its texture. Some of these products can easily break apart and turn into mush. This is because the base ingredient does not feature components that make the pasta elastic. You can avoid this by picking a legume-based product. Peas and beans offer better gluten-free texture; if you prefer corn, rice, etc., make sure the product has xanthan gum in the list of ingredients because it has binding characteristics.

Chickpea Pasta

Chickpea pasta is made with garbanzo beans which usually come in flour. You can form your favorite gluten-free pasta like penne, spaghetti, and more with chickpeas. Its nutritional value includes plant-based protein, fiber, and iron. Below are some of our favorite brands that sell chickpea pasta.

Soba Noodles

Soba Noodles have a rich history in Japanese culture and are made with buckwheat. Buckwheat is a gluten-free seed that many people prefer for its healthy nutrients. Checking your soba noodle products is important because some contain wheat flour. The flavor profile includes nutty and features a chewy texture. Gluten-Free Fettucine

Fettuccine is a classic Italian pasta dish that is used for a variety of recipes. Finding a gluten-free version of this is easy to find at local stores like Walmart, Target, and Amazon. Some products may vary in texture and taste, but I tried to include brands similar to their wheat counterparts. Since these products are gluten-free, I recommend having a shorter cooking time as it’s easier for these to become overcooked.

  • Taste Republic
  • Le Venezian
  • Barilla Gluten-Free
  • Well Lean Organic
  • The Only Bean

Penne pasta is by far my favorite kind of food to use for all sorts of sauces. Finding a gluten-free alternative is not always easy due to its brittle texture. The tube-like pasta is great for holding meats and stuffings. Here’s a list of my preferred gluten-free penne pasta brands:
