Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) has forged a significant partnership with local non-profit Dion's Chicago Dream, a collaboration that holds great promise in addressing food insecurity in the Chicagoland area. With generous funding from the Walgreens Foundation, this initiative is set to make a doable difference in the lives of over 1,000 Chicago residents, providing them with fresh produce for the following year.
Alethia Jackson, Senior Vice President of ESG and Chief DEI Officer at WBA, emphasized the importance of taking a local approach to meet the specific needs of communities. "The Walgreens Foundation is dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of the communities Walgreens serves, and the passion of the team at Dion's Chicago Dream is making a real difference in Chicago," said Jackson.
Dion's Chicago Dream, led by visionary Dion Dawson, is at the forefront of this endeavor, striving to improve health outcomes and equity by tackling food insecurity through innovative delivery and logistics solutions. Dawson expressed, "In these challenging times, many families are grappling with the affordability of healthy food. Our partnership with Walgreens is a significant stride, enabling us to extend our reach and showcase the transformative power of collaboration."
The program will leverage Dion's Chicago Dream's cutting-edge infrastructure, including the innovative Dream Deliveries and Dream Vaults. Dream Deliveries will bring pre-measured packages of fruits and vegetables right to the doorsteps of residents, while Dream Vaults will serve as secure locker access points for residents to conveniently collect their weekly supply.
Food insecurity remains an urgent and pressing issue in Chicago, with one in eight Chicago residents grappling with hunger, as revealed by a 2023 study by Feeding America. The Walgreens and Dion's Chicago Dream partnership, with its potential to significantly improve access to healthy food for many Chicago families, is a timely and crucial response to this challenge.
