The Bonhomme Group, known for popular Chicago spots such as Bambola and Beatnik, has opened a new all-day concept called Expat. Located in Fulton Market, Expat offers a versatile dining experience that is sure to excite and intrigue, functioning as a cozy breakfast and lunch spot by day and transforming into a vibrant bar and restaurant by night.
Expat's menu, curated by Bonhomme Partner and Executive Chef Marcos Campos along with Culinary Directors Shannah Primiano and Erwin Mallet, showcases a unique fusion of American comfort food and international influences. This blend is sure to pique your curiosity and make you eager to try our dishes. Breakfast options feature classics like pancakes and breakfast burritos, while lunch offers juicy BLTs and inventive pizzas. The dinner menu includes wood-fired pizzas, house-smoked pastrami sandwiches, and pasta dishes.
The design of Expat draws inspiration from the appeal of exotic travel. "We aim to provide the ambiance of an exotic destination while maintaining the warmth and flavors of home," says Daniel Alonso, Founder and Creative Director of Bonhomme Hospitality Group. The restaurant's design captures the vibrant energy of 1950s Havana, Ibiza, and Marrakech, adding a touch of wanderlust for local residents.
Expat's beverage program, developed by Bonhomme Group Partner and Director of Beverage Programs Brian Sturgulewski, aligns with the restaurant's international theme. The bar proposes a thoughtfully curated selection of "American Bar" style cocktails, drawing inspiration from classic recipes around the world. Expat's bar team also features a rotating list of natural wines, highlighting emerging winemakers and unique varietals.
Expat aspires to be a cornerstone of the Fulton Market community, a place where everyone feels included and part of a larger group. "We want Expat to be more than just a great old-world cafe bar," explains Alonso. "It's a place for local residents and neighbors to rely on for a great start to their morning, a spot to work, a place to satisfy their cravings, a venue to enjoy a cocktail, and an opportunity to groove to some vinyl DJ sets."
